Mason CountyFirst called Nontipekago, the county was created in 1840 from Mackinac County. In 1843 its name was changed to Mason. County government was organized in 1855, with the seat established at Burr Caswell Farm. By 1861 the seat was changed to Lincoln, and by 1874 it was changed to Ludington. County
