 Montmorency
County
First
called Cheonoquet, the county was created in 1840 from Mackinac
County and non-county area. In 1843 its name was changed to Montmorency.
County government was organized in 1881, with the seat established at
Hillman. By 1893, the seat had been changed to Atlanta.
